RAHAYUNINGSIH:
Political Education for Senior High
School Students: Civic Education Praxis. The case at
SMA Pangudi Luhur Santo Yosef Surakarta. Dissertation.

This study
aimed: 1) to describe the phenomenon of political education as an effort to
build a democratic culture in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta through the Civic
Education subject; 2) to describe the phenomenon of political education as an
effort to build a democratic culture in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta through
extracurricular programs and the management of the school organization
atmosphere; 3) to analyze and assess the interpretation by the students,
teachers and principal in making sense of political education as a means of
building a democratic culture in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta; 4) to analyze and
assess the interpretation by the students and teachers in making sense of
Pancasila, UUD 1945 and Bhineka Tunggal Ika in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta and 4)
to formulate a political education pattern in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta.
This study was
qualitative study employing a phenomenological approach. It was conducted
through: 1) the stage of collecting data through interviews, observations and
documentation; 2) the stage of coding as a process to reduce data; 3) the stage
of qualitative data analysis namely the interpretation of meanings by combining
the data that had been coded to produce categorization; and 4) the stage of
writing the results of the analysis in a complete description.
The findings of
the study are as follows; 1) Political Education in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta
is integrated in teaching and learning activities, especially in the Civic
Education subject; 2) Political education as an effort to build a democratic
culture in SMA Santo Yosef Surakarta is integrated in extracurricular programs
and the management of the school organization atmosphere; 3) There is a
difference in the interpretation by the students and the school about politics,
but there is a similarity in the interpretation of political education at
school; 4) There is a positive interpretation by students and teachers of SMA
Santo Yosef Surakarta to the efforts of preserving Pancasila, UUD 1945 and
Bhineka Tunggal Ika, and; 5) The political education pattern in SMA Santo Yosef
Surakarta is conducted through three approaches, namely the integration into
the Civic Education subject, extracurricular programs, and school organization
programs. This study offers the theory of “School as A Learning Organization
and Society System” in the political learning process in the school.
